OPINION: Want to know what Alberta thinks of the federal speech from the throne?

Well, here’s the first political response issued from inside Alberta soon after the speech ended: “Alberta has been the hardest hit among all Canadian provinces, and yet there was no mention of specific support in today’s throne speech.”

It was an entirely predictable response from a province that has suffered low (and even negative) oil prices, record debt, and high unemployment. You probably think the comment came from Premier Jason Kenney. It didn’t. It came from Alberta’s NDP leader, Rachel Notley.

When it comes to getting their noses out of joint with the federal government these days, Alberta politicians have particularly sensitive schnozzles, no matter their political stripe.
