Opinion | First cracks are appearing in Premier Smith’s support among her party

Try as she might, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has discovered she can’t keep a lid on a brewing scandal threatening her government.

It is boiling over into something of a political mutiny. Not enough of a mutiny at this point to capsize Smith’s leadership, but an insurrection nonetheless.

In Alberta Conservative politics, premiers tend to be brought down by party mutinies, not elections. Just look at the coups the past 30 years against Conservative leaders Don Getty, Ed Stelmach, Alison Redford and Jason Kenney.
